Description fowlslegs 2013-05-07 00:46:09 CEST
xfce4-session is randomly experiencing error and I am taken back to the login screen. My session is restored at login. Here is my /var/log/syslog. There are (most often) no entries within 3-5 minutes before the xfce4-session segfault, so I thought it unnecessary to include the entries before it. Logouts happen every 30 seconds to 30 minutes, at random.

Changed this to critical because I am trying to write a report and keep losing data even though Kile (Latex editor) has some file recovery services and I am constantly saving. For anyone working on important documents this is a critical bug. I have not made any changes myself to X11 settings or xfwm, sfce-session, etc. settings.

Kile is not reopened when I log back in while firefox, xfce4-terminal, and gedit are. I keep closing gedit, but during log in it is loaded back anyway, meaning that the session saving process itself is also having problems.

Also at least one system service is being started whilst already running (see picture above).

Actually it appears that no matter what applications are open at the time of crash (even if none are) the three abovementioned are the only ones which open upon relogin.

I added and removed applet indicator from my panel and this fixed it. Hasn't happened since.

I reinstalled the xubuntu-desktop and all of xfce4 packages to no avail. In fact, after doing so the suspend and hibernate functions on my panel 0's action button item are also not working. I am running Xubuntu 13.04, upgraded from Xubuntu 12.10.

xfce4-taskmanager

I briefly tried openbox window manager a week ago or so and now that I think about it things have been a little funky since then, but have definitely gone downhill since some recent updates. The --restore still follows xfwm4, not sure if that is supposed to be there or how to fix it if not.

Hello,

Thanks for your detailed bug report. This is likely a duplicate of bug #9709 which was fixed in the Xfce4-session 4.10.1 release last week.

Cheers,

Jérôme

I can't conclusively say the bug is fixed as I have only gone 30 minutes without a segfault, but it is my belief that it has been. On another note, suspend and hibernate are still not working. Should I file a new bug report for this?
